Hello, I hope you are all doing well. I'm in a problem and I was wondering if someone could help me understand the best way to approach it. I have applied for citizenship in Jan 2020. I did my test on Sep-15 2021. I got my online Oath and ceremony scheduled for 10th of March.
4 months ago I booked my flight ticket to fly on March 7th. I'm going to see my ill sister. I have an expired PR. Before the Oath and ceremony, my plan was to travel and then apply for a PRTD to return to Canada. I'm staying abroad for almost 60 days.
Back in Jan-Feb I sent a webform and called the IRCC explaining my urgency but I did not receive help. A week ago I got the email for Oath and ceremony, in the instructions they say "contact us on this email as soon as possible". I have contacted on them Feb 23rd but I didn't receive a reply and its been a week. Currently, I don't know what to do. I was thinking of my moving my flight date for a week, March 7 to March 14. Until I can get the Oath and ceremony done then travel.
Would that be an option? I can let my parents send me the certificate when it arrives, I can then perhaps apply for a temporary passport or Canadian passport at the embassy/consulate(if that's possible) I'm about to email the embassy to understand further from them.
What are my other options, I want to make sure that I can secure myself a way of coming back to Canada without problems, I also have to travel the latest by March 14 because I have to be with my sister. Do they take a while to reply to such emails?
this was the email I was given" IRCC.DNCitNGFScheduling07-ConvocationNGFCitRN.IRCC@cic.gc.ca" I live in Kitchener, this is being done by Niagara office.

Really sorry for the long read, thank you loads for you help and time.

IMO asking for your oath to be postponed after you return from your travel + PRTD abroad is the simplest option. Your advantage is that your processing office is Niagara Falls and not a severely backlogged one like Mississauga or Scarborough.... The hope is that your revised oath date happens sooner than later.

If you indicated in your Feb 23rd email that you were travelling on the date of your oath and would like to postpone that should be enough. It can take a while for replies, but it wouldn't hurt to send a follow up email at this point.

Good luck.

If I were in your shoes I'd postpone my flight and take the oath. Let your parents send you the certificate if it doesn't get lost by Canada Post and then get a passport while outside the country. You should be able to fill out all the paperwork and get your photos done that week and have your parents apply for you (sending you the passport instead of the certificate). Don't bank on 60 days being enough to get a PRTD while overseas, depending on country.

I am with you on this one. Aren't there specific rules about how come you are flying out of a country with a Passport you didn't enter on? There are no guarantees that you would be given another oath date quickly after coming back to Canada and letting IRCC know you are back. There are some very long delays of people on the forums who postponed their oath. The timing is so close, with your oath on March 10. Its a tough decision to make, a real rock and a hard place. Only the OP can make that decision whatever you feel in your heart, go with that!
