citizenship test difficulty level

Both myself and grade 11 son only read the night before the test and we both got 20/20 and both finished in about 2 mins. But mind you, I am a more involved mom in school work, and since i helped my kids in history, things were not new to me.
Read the discover canada book only one, don't try to memorise dates, and just continue to do the practice questions.
The test is simpler than the practice tests, so you will be very prepared.

The issue I have is with memorizing names and dates. Dates might be much easier than names though!
Does the test include a lot of questions about who is who ?

There are a few.

The key thing is that the test is multiple choice. So even if you don't remember the exact date or exact name, as long as you have an idea, you can usually figure out the right answer via process of elimination and also via context.

Yes, and the questions follow closely the format on the CIC website quiz. Ultimately, there's nothing to be afraid of on the test. Read the book, practice with the quiz, and you'll be fine. It's not so much a question of knowledge, but of memory.

I only did the practice tests and finished test in less than five minutes and got 20/20

http://citizenshipcounts.ca - This one has an extensive set of questions. While the questions on the test differ a little, the content is valid, worth doing a few times.

So is the time given from test invitation to the test date enough time with all the resources and links provided ? I could start studying now but I might be scheduled four months out and will probably forget everything by then and will have to study again.

So is waiting for the test invite to start a good idea? I am just concerned if it was enough time or will they allow me to re-schedule the date if i am not feeling ready to take the test? thanks

Usually it seems to be around four weeks from invite to test and that should be enough... I had two weeks time and had no problems studying. But it also depends one each individuals preference and learning strategies.

I read the book for the first time a few weeks prior to applying - which, I confess, was unnecessary. I reread it after I got the test invite and did many online quizzes. My wife read for the first time only after the test invite and did a few quizzes - we did some together. Both got 20/20.

The test is not hard at all. The four weeks between test invite and test date should be enough. It's basically memorization.

Personal opinion: Don't try to reschedule because you think you might fail the test.

Suggestion: Start studying now, read the book and maybe keep doing the online tests once a week to keep what you learned fresh in your memory. Then once you receive test invite you are already somewhat prepared and can study a little more. With this strategy you should be fine with even just one week notice for test.

Do not try to reschedule, just read the book twice and practice some online tests, and you will be fine. The test is easy no surprises.
