Hi all,

I am a student at the University of Toronto and I received a notice to appear for my citizenship oath on October 16th.

During which time, I received an interview invitation from Microsoft in US on October 15th as stated in the email attached. I informed them about my oath and they were able to reschedule the appointment to the 19th. However, when I arrived at the oath on the October 16th I was told that I would not be eligible to apply for an emergency passport for travelling to the US within 4 business days. To be able make my flight to the US the citizenship officer who was helping me recommended me to reschedule the appointment. He also helped by writing “deferred” on a photocopy of my notice to appear.

After the date of the oath, I have been regularly checking my online application status, and have not seen any update with regard to the rescheduling.

As I have received an offer from the US, they in the process of applying a work VISA for me. I informed them that my citizenship oath is underway. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone knows where I could check whether my oath is being rescheduled, and if so, the approximate time frame for the rescheduled appointment.

Thanks!

1. Its too late but you shouldn't have listened to the CIC Officer. The opportunity to take the oath is above all else. Check this forum and see the frustration applicants have just getting to the test stage.

2. You could have then used your current passport with US visa to attend interview and when re-entering Canada present your Citizenship certificate likely at secondary inspection.

3. CIC offices no longer allow walk ins - you need an appointment. Call either the local Office or the Call Centre and find out when the next oath is scheduled.

4. If you don't have a new oath date prior to you working in the US then make sure someone regularly checks your Canadian mail address for any CIC notices or alternatively inform CIC of your US address.

Good luck and next time ignore the 'helpful' recommendation from CIC and take the oath.
