Hey there,

I was born in Russia, I came to canada in 2009 and took Systems analyst(3 years) in Toronto. I decided to graduate with a 2 years diploma with 2 co-op terms(at RIM) cause IT wasn't what i wanted to do. I graduated in december 2011, applied for work permit in February and got a 3 years work permit(exp. March 30 2015).

Since then i am trying to find an IT job but due to my disinterested I couldn't find it. I have worked at London hydro for 2 months as an IT service desk rep. Now i have decided I don't want to purse my career in IT, and its final.

I am really into fitness, I work as a Personal Trainer at Goodlife, I was wondering if I can get promoted to Fitness Manager position if then would i be eligible for Permanent residence under Manger criteria(NOC 0 category I think). There is no way im working in IT industry for 1 year to get the Citizenship. I cant see myself doing that.

What are my options? I dont have any problem speaking english as i lived in england for 6 years before coming to Canada.

You cannot apply for citizenshp directly. You must first become a permanent resident of Canada. Once you have become a PR and have lived in Canada for three out of four years, you will then qualify to apply for citizenship. So right now what you are aiming for is PR.

If you complete 1 year of skilled work experience then you should qualify to apply for PR through the Canadian Experience Class program. Read through the threads in the Canadian Experience Class section of this forum for more information.

I understand I can't apply for citzenship directly, but I tried searching noc for Fitness Manager position. Does it fall under code 0? So I can be eligible for mangerial postion.

Plus I would like to know if I hve to work in IT as I did a 2 year program to get a PR, is there a restriction that you have to work in your study related field under canadian experoience class or I can work at the gym as a fitness manager, and will be eligble under noc code 0 managerial position??

Please respond

Thanks

Yes, managerial positions are considered skilled -

http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/ProfileKeyword.aspx?val=0&val1=0513&val11=fitness+manager&val12=0&val13=0&val14=&val15=0&val16=0

Have you looked at the CEC requirements? It lays everything out in black and white!

1) You need 12 months of FT (30 hours or more) or equivalent skilled work experience.
2) Your job must have an NOC in skills level 0, A or B.
3) You must be employed, not self employed.
4) You must meet the other requirements such as language... see CIC CEC website for more details.

Assuming your work experience matches the above requirements, you will be good to apply and count the experience. However, let's say you have 11 months FT work experience (30 hours or more). Let's say you then have two months of PT work experience (15 hours per week)... These two months would equate to 1 month of FT work experience... So basically you are working it out on a Pro-rata basis.

FT is deemed to be 30 hours or more. Let's say you work 40 hours one week, this is capped at 30... So you can't use the extra 10 towards your total hours.

I hope this helps.
