Hi All,

I will be applying for Citizenship this month. I wanted to know on what basis the citizenship test date is finalized? Do I need to wait for the date from CIC or I can give the test myself after applying for citizenship?

Thanks in Advance

CIC sets the test date.

CIC will send out a letter with Test date and Test Location based on your home address. You don't get to pick the dates. You can get a letter from CIC sometimes one or two weeks in advance. If you can't make it and have to reschedule it, it might take another 6 months to a year. CIC expects you to consider the citizenship application process with a higher priority and schedule everything else around it :P

Ok.

I am currently have Indian citizenship and passport. Will Cic ask me to give the passport back to Indian embassy? Do I need to inform Indian embassy on i am applying for indian citizenship

CIC will not ask you to do that.

India does not let you keep your Indian citizenship once you get Canadian citizenship. However, you can have Indian overseas citizenship. Canada does not really care how many or what other citizenships you have.

Thanks Loen.

Do you know the process of giving the Indian citizenship? When we should give that, is their some specfic timelimit.
If you have some site , can you please share it.

Yes, you can do this through an Indian embassy in Canada, see http://www.hciottawa.ca/index.php/consular-services/surrender-renunciation-certificate-services You should do it as soon as possible after you complete your Canadian citizenship ceremony and get your Canadian citizenship.

You can apply for OCI (overseas citizenship of India) at the same time you renounce your Indian citizenship. The link to OCI on the embassy in Canada website doesn't seem to work but you can read about it on the website of the embassy in London here: http://hcilondon.in/oci.php I am sure it is the same procedure as in Canada.

Thank you so much Leon for the links and information.

Hi,

Do anyone knows as when we will recieve the acknowledgement letter after applying for citizenship. In how many days? And when our status will be updated?

Usually it is one month from the application receipt date. You should be able to see the online status activated for your citizenship application by the time you receive your acknowledgment of receipt letter.

However, you can keep checking your online status before you receive anything from them through your client ID number which is written on the front of your PR card. In case the application is complete and they activated your e-case for the citizenship application, you will be able to view the status using that client ID number.
