Hi all,
We have applied for citizenship and received an email today to go for an interview next month.
I wonder when does one take the citizenship test. Is it during that interview next month or do I have to book a test prior to the interview?
Please help.
You do the test before the interview, in one appointment.
Observation:
Ordinarily the notice from IRCC will clearly indicate the event scheduled is for the TEST & INTERVIEW . . . IF in fact that is what has been scheduled.
Some applicants are test exempt. And, thus, are scheduled for the Program Integrity Interview only (all applicants are subject to a PI Interview). Even then, though, there are reports that the notice for the interview nonetheless might also reference the TEST, at least in some local offices. (And indeed, being an old man who was test exempt even before the Bill C-6 changes, I too received a NOTICE which was for BOTH the Test and Interview, but I did not take the test, and my personal experience was many years ago, back when many of us had nightmares Harper might be PM for life.)
THERE ARE, POTENTIALLY, OTHER TYPES OF INTERVIEWS.
I have no idea what the status of your application is or what interview has been scheduled. As the
@ZingyDNA observation suggests, in the most common scenario (with only RARE exceptions) the applicant is scheduled for ONE combined event, both the TEST and INTERVIEW, and at this event applicants FIRST take the test, and after the test there is the PI interview.
If, in the notice you received there is NO hint of being scheduled for the test, it would be prudent to read the notice carefully and discern whether there is some other kind of interview scheduled.
Among the possibilities:
-- Anecdotal reports are rare, but the PDIs refer to possible Quality Assurance interviews.
-- There are virtually no personal reports in the forum, but it is also possible for an applicant to be scheduled for an interview with a Citizenship Officer if there is an issue about eligibility OTHER THAN the presence requirement (such as whether a prohibition might be involved).
Thus, again, it would be prudent to carefully read the notice, and be sure to follow the instructions in the notice.
Again, the odds are high this is the standard, routine TEST & PI INTERVIEW event, which again as
@ZingyDNA observed will proceed with the TEST first to be followed, at that same event, by the INTERVIEW.
I am just noting that there are other possibilities, not at all common possibilities, . . . in case, in reviewing your particular notice, this might be one of those other possible interviews.
