I'm interested in getting citizenship for my children. I was born outside of Canada to a Canadian parent. My children were born after 2009 outside of Canada. They are not automatically Canadian. We do not reside in Canada and do not have current intentions of moving there. I don't know if Canada takes this into consideration at all, but I do work with the American army. I thought I had read once that there's a clause that a child can gain citizenship by residing with a Canadian parent even if it's overseas. Can't seem to find it now. Anyone know anything about this?

Your children are second generation born abroad and do not qualify for citizenship. You would need to sponsor them for PR and then once they are permanent residents, apply for their citizenship. If you want to make this happen, you'll need to move to Canada at some point.

No - there is no clause that a child can gain citizenship by residing with a Canadian parent even if it's overseas. You are confusing citizenship and permanent residency rules. The rule is if a child is a permanent resident they can reside outside of Canada with a Canadian citizen parent and still keep their PR status without meeting the residency requirement to retain PR. This has nothing to do with citizenship and isn't relevant to your situation since your children aren't even PRs at this point.
