I am from India.
Me and My wife both have tourist visa for 10 years which give us 6 months stay at one time.
My wife is pregnant. We are planning to enter Canada when she is doing her 5th month so this way we have to spend only last 4 months of her pregnancy in Canada.

Will my child get the Canadian passport with no issues and how much time it would take for his Canadian passport to be given in hand?

Kindly advise the best and way to go about it.

Thanks

You realise of course you will need to pay for any medical treatment for the pregnancy as that will not be covered by travel insurance. Apart from the actual birth cost if there are any complications you could be up for thousands of dollars and also result in an overstay as a visitor.

You say the last 4 months but keep in mind airlines have a minimum time post birth in allowing a new born to fly plus also from a health viewpoint the new borns immune system could be compromised with any travel.

The baby if born in Canada will of course be a Canadian citizen but to get a passport may take some time again leading to an overstay, check the Canadian passport site for the requirements and processing time.

When entering Canada as tourists there is no guarantee you will be allowed to stay for 6 months if your intent or itinerary is not clear or genuine as tourists to the CBSA officer even less likely if the officer becomes aware of the pregnancy and a return ticket 6 months out.

Be aware that ‘birth tourism’ can be quite a contentious issue with some people.

Edited to add : Assume also that once the child has a Canadian passport that any entry requirements back into India have been taken into account given as I understand it and maybe wrong but thought India does not support dual citizenship..

Also having a child as a Canadian citizen is of no benefit to the parents as far as immigration to Canada is concerned, or at least until child is 18 and can potentially sponsor parents.
