Citizenship filing location - please advise

Hello Forum Members,

I wanted to check if any of you would have any answer to a question I have about citizenship application. To be fair, I am a couple of months away from qualifying, but was proactively looking at FAQs in the forum to get myself ready for my application. But couldn’t find anything related to the particular situation I am in. So here it goes:

I am a Canadian PR, about to apply for my citizenship in a couple of months’ time. My job is in Vancouver and so is my primary residence. However, my wife is in school in Saskatchewan and I spend a good chunk of time here in SK. With COVID, I have been able to work remotely from SK and have spent most of my time this year in SK. I expect to continue to live in SK at the time of my application while maintaining my primary residence in Vancouver.

My question is, where should I be filing my application from? Does it matter at all?

If you will be living in SK then that is where you should apply from. However, keep in mind that your test and oath will likely take place in SK as well - these events could be at minimum a year away and at worst more than two years away. Though some may argue with the backlogs, your minimum could be 2 years. Are you able to remain OR travel to SK when necessary?

You are allowed to change your address in this time, although be aware that this will add onto your processing time.

If you find it feasible to travel back and forth, and so care instead about minimizing processing time, check out the citizenship tracker. You can use it to check out the differences in processing times between locations. In the last tabs, you will also find access to the trackers for 2019 and prior. Do your research here and decide for yourself. Good luck!
