Citizenship changes at overseas after getting PR card

Hi all,

I just migrated to Canada and got Canada PR card. At the same time, i also got citizen approval from a country that i do not feel like letting go. Unfortunately, the country does not allow dual citizenship.

As i will need to leave Canada (without valid PR card as the nationality is still my birth country) to formalize the country's citizenship, i think i would probably need to apply for PRTD when i come back to Canada? I intended to stay in Canada for the remaining of the validity of the Canada PR card before next renewal, that would make up the 730 days requirement.

Would like to ask for such situation to see if there is any successful PRTD application when overseas. The PRTD would be in another citizenship that different from the PR card i having.

I don't see why you would have problems getting a PRTD.

Your existing pr card remains valid including for returning to Canada. It is not linked to nationality on the card. If you're worried about boarding the flight, show a copy of your old nationality's passport to identify you (but only if asked).

If anyone ever asks about this, tell the truth - you acquired a new nationality and had to renounce the old one, and it has no impact on your pr status, regardless of what is on the back of the card.
