I want to obtain proof of my Canadian citizenship but I don't have my father's Canadian birth certificate needed to submit the application. I am a US citizen, but my father is Canadian.

Paternity was established through the courts in Ohio in 1991 when I was a baby, but my father has never had any contact with me so I can't ask him for a copy of his Canadian birth certificate.

I have searched but haven't been able to find any information about this situation. It seems there should be some kind of provision for situations like this.

Can anyone provide any guidance on this? Thanks.

It is going to be very difficult (I would say impossible) to apply for proof of citizenship without your father's birth certificate. And, you cannot request a copy of his birth certificate without his permission. My suggestion is to contact IRCC and see what they have to say. If it is very important to you (for example, if you want to move to Canada), it may be that you will have to try to make contact with your biological father, as unpleasant as that may be. Failing that, you could consult a Canadian lawyer and possibly even take the matter to court, but that would be quite expensive.
