Had my oath this morning Online with the Surrey office.

I decided to take my chance In my oath form email and requested if I could pick up the citizenship certificate from the IRCC Surrey location as I have a family event to attend overseas in 17 days.
To my surprise, the officer replied and said I could either pick it up from Vancouver or they could send it via express mail.

I’ll post update here if I can successfully pick it up.

Moral of this Temp story; Don’t tell them you have travel plans before you take the Oath and don’t forget to take your chances in the Oath Form Email.

PS: Also don’t forget to thank the officer and support staff for their efficiency in conducting the zoom oaths on time. Doesn’t hurt to be a little nice with your words

Hi! I am from surrey too, and having my oath and travel Soon. Any update please
When is your oat ceremony? Mine is on Sept 15. I'm gonna ask to pick it up from their office. I will let you know what happens. If yours is before mine could you let me know? I need to travel too, and I'm nervous about it because I may need to leave without a passport (my grandmother is really sick) if I don't receive it on time.

Thank you!

Mine is on september 26, my friends just got their cetificate, and ussually they just wait for 3-5 days to receive it.

I had heard that it took 2 to 6 weeks, so I was worried. Maybe that's for when people who don't live in metropolitan areas and it's faster if you live in the city.

I just finished the Oath ceremony with SCR office.
I had requested to expedite it before the ceremony and the clerk during the ceremony acknowledge the urgency but mentioned that they don't allow certificate to be picked up from the local office...
I did provide a letter from the office confirming the travel and requesting IRCC to expedite the certificate
They will mail the certificate tomorrow by regular mail.

You met a nice office and understanding clerk 100%.
I tried the same with Winnipeg office yesterday during oath, the clerk was extremely dismissive. My sister is getting married in 10 days, she said that is not a valid reason to expedite the certificate dispatch. I even told her I have the wedding invite and tickets booked and showed it to her, she said still not enough. I even told her I am willing to fly from Vancouver to Winnipeg to pick it up in person, she even rejected that idea.
In oath email, I explained again everything and attached everything along with signed oath form. No reply yet.

Sigh, now I am sitting here anxiously waiting to get certificate before my own sister's marriage. Sadness.

They should just let anyone request express delivery of certificate, and allow them to pay for it. The citizenship certificates have always been given at the end of the ceremony (in the USA as well), so they should have them ready even if it's a virtual ceremony. If they are worried about the cost of express shippping, then they can let people pay for that. It's quite strange and frankly unacceptable to create this unneccessary hardship for people that have to wait a month or more to get their certificate and cannot travel.

A week went by (oath was on 17th). Forget urgent dispatch, even my online status has not changed. Still says: Ceremony: In Progress.
I provided them with proof of wedding invite and tickets too. Told them this so politely during ceremony too. I even told them I can fly from vancouver to Winnipeg to pick it up in person. Unbelievable!!! Winnipeg office clerks are the absolute worst, I am so shocked.

I will have to miss my sister's marriage now and cancel the flight tickets too. My flight is on Tuesday night vancouver time and her wedding is on Wednesday. I will never forgive IRCC Winnipeg for this disaster.

Since their official goal is set in terms of how many oaths, may be they deprioritized all the paperwork that comes after oath, it's still surprsing they wouldn't accommodate a sibling's wedding for expedited processing.

They started a pilot process where they send out e-certificates after the oath for some persons. You'll think that it would have been fully adopted for all applicants. It saves a lot of time and money, and it also ensures that certificates don't get lost in the mail.

This can be solved by e-certificates, but IRCC likes to drag their feet with new technology.
