Hi everyone,
i just need some help i am divorce and have the legal documents submitted to Citizenship immigration when i have to submit my application but application was using the married name of my ex spouse. I wanted it to change into my previous single last name before they printed out and i wanted to use that in my passport.
What should i do in order to appear in my Certificate the single name or previous last name?
I am just waiting for the Oath to be taken place. TIA

It will be more problem now to change and very few people will ever see your citizenship certificate. I'd recommend you focus on getting it changed for your passport. (Getting name change for certificate might slow things down and make getting the certificate your priority )

You'll have to look at what tis needed to change name in your province. In my provinces i think you can just revert to your maiden name - without a formal legal process - so start with eg your driver's license and provincial health card. Then deal with other docs.

Obviously you may find that legal process is needed (or preferable).

Yes, down the road you can apply for a revised citizenship cert - but it will take more time. Shouldn't matter much if you've fixed your passport.

Thank’s so much! The reason why i start with the Certificate surname change is that i wanted to show on my passport my Maiden name or previous last name not my ex spouse last name. So once i have certificate using the maiden name before married its easy to just use it on my passport because thats the basis. I hope i can fine solution.

Check the passport application. Passport does NOT have to be same as citizenship certificate as long as you have the documentation to show why your passport should be in new (new old) name.

Eg if you had to do legal change of name, you can apply directly for passport under revised name without changing certificate first.

Or put simply: there is no need to change certificate at all to get passport under changed name. And since certificate takes MUCH longer, do that later.

Read and check the passport application instructions and check what is needed in your province.
