Citizenship certificate application for my children

I am a naturalized Canadian citizen living in the US since 1998. From what I understand, my two children (born in the US) are already Canadian citizens because I am one. I would like to get citizenship certificates for them as we are thinking about moving to Canada. Their mother (my wife) is a US born US citizen and will need to apply for landed immigrant status.

Can someone help me with the following:

I only have a citizenship certificate card (with picture). The paper certificate is missing. Do I need the paper certificate to apply for my children?

How long will it take to get the certificates?

Will the C-24 bill have an effect?

Thank you!!

I do not know if you need the paper certificate to apply for your children. It should only take a few months (maximum) to get your children's certificates and C-24 should have no effect on your ability to pass along citizenship to your children. It will take roughly ~10 months for your wife to get PR status once you have applied to sponsor her as long as you sponsor out-land via Ottawa.

In my Case CHC Abroad (Not U.S) didn't have any issues with my Canadian Citizenship card (Photo). I am quite sure it shall be fine. It shall take no more than 10 months. Good Luck!

Thanks you both for your response. I'm curious if there are others who have had success with only the citizenship certificate card?

Why would you be applying for your child, Miller? Haven't you already landed?

My wife will receive her COPR in the next few days. It looks like she might not be able to travel as she scheduled to give birth mid September. Just trying to figure out our next step once the baby is born; return the COPR and submit an application once the baby is born or she lands and returns to the US to give birth and we then apply a US passport for the baby in order to enter Canada. I would assume the latter is the better option in terms of a quicker processing time as it could take more than four months to receive Canadian Citizenship Certificate for the baby. Any suggestions?

As the child will be Canadian, she DOES NOT under any circumstances need to return the COPR, even if she has the child before she lands. The child doesn't need to be added to her application. You would just email the VO to update them about the birth.

You can cross a land border with only the child's birth certificate.

If you are flying, you can actually submit the Certificate of Citizenship app and apply immediately for a limited validity Canadian passport. Or just apply for the US passport and do the Canadian app once inside Canada.
