The book is definitely wrong on this particular question. The book was printed after the addition of 30 electoral districts but failed to update it.
WOW!!!!!! even the online version is not updated!!!!! also says 308....

I am confused are there 308 or 338 election areas in Canada?
There are 338 seats in the House of Commons and, therefore, electoral districts (called a riding).

Previously, there were 308. This changed late last year. It takes a while for the actual citizenship exams that are administered to catch up. It also takes a while for the online exams of various web sites to also update and probably don't do so at the same time as when the administered exams do.

If both 308 and 338 are not both multiple-choice options on the actual exams, it might become obvious when writing the exam what the effective date is of the administered exam.

I recall the previous online practice exams did not offer 338 as an option so it was easy to see that 308 would be the correct (albeit outdated) answer for the exam.

I'm using one of the online free test resource website to practice the exam and I notice there are some questions have wrong question. there was a question asking how many election areas in Canada. the correct answer should be 308 but the website said 338...
WOW UPDATE: THE BOOK IS ACTUALLY WRONG. THERE SHOULD 338 ELECTIONA AREAS IN CANADA!
RIght, I noticed that. The book is out of date because it was printed in 2012 I think. IRCC plans on updating it in a year or two.

Doubt they'll ask such a question on the test.

So, has anyone got this question in the test, answered 338 or 308 and still got 20/20?
No one mentioned this question. And I really doubt they would ask it on the real test. If they do, either pick 308 or 338 and then explain to the officer why you picked it. I'm pretty sure they'll consider both as correct answers.

I feel even if they ask it, among the multiple possible choices either 338 or 308 will show up, but not both.

Considering they set the questions based on the current Guide, I doubt if this question will feature. However, if I see the question in the exam and it has both 338 and 308 as options, I will circle 308.

  2. We sent you correspondence acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on November 18, 2017.
  3. We started processing your application on December 7, 2017.
  4. We sent you a notice on February 22, 2018 to appear and write the citizenship test on March 12, 2018 at 7:45 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.

Any advice on how to prepare for the test would be helpful. Thank you :)
Read the Study Guide at least once. Practice as any questions possible. You will be okay.
