My brother's application was received october 16. He got it back on 27th december because he sent the wrong fee receipt-the refunded receipt (on october 11 although his fee payment went through the first time it didn't show so he paid again and then he realised he'd made two payments and requested a refund). So he resent the application with the correct receipt and it was received on Jan 2 - it was to be sent at a new office but no AOR as yet. His application had lots of tick marks and initials, I thought only fee receipt was pending. Anyone went through a similar situation? What would be the timeline?

Hi, I need some clarification. Who is required to fill taxes?

I landed December 20th 2014. Never worked till th end of the year. I filled taxes for 2014, but am I was required? Which box to check in the application. Thanks

As suggested by @razerblade, who-is-required-to-file is best answered by a reputable source dealing with filing Canadian taxes. The answer to this question, who-is-required-to-file, depends on CRA rules.

That said, for any year in which the individual did in fact file a tax return, it is most likely OK to check "yes" required to file. By actually filing a return, the individual has in some sense determined he or she needed to file a return . . . that is, was required to file for some reason . . . even if CRA rules do not absolutely mandate the filing of a return.

My strong sense is that only for years in which the individual did not file a return is it important to determine definitively whether filing a return was required.

Citizenship applicants do not need to be experts in tax law. A response based on an honest, reasonable belief is OK. But before checking "no" not required to file and "no" did not file, it is important to make a real effort to determine if CRA rules allow the individual to not file for that year.

Ultimately, for any year in which the applicant did file a Canadian tax return, checking "yes" and "yes," required to and did file for that year, will NOT, COULD NOT, lead to an error in the administration of citizenship law.

Obviously, checking "no" not required to file and "no" did not file, for a year in which the applicant was required to file under CRA rules, could lead to an error in the administration of citizenship law, since that year would count as a year in compliance with tax filing obligations when in fact the applicant was not in compliance . . . and calculating years the applicant was in compliance with the tax filing obligations is required for a grant of citizenship. So this would be a material misrepresentation for which the consequences could be severe.

my application was delivered on 23rd of october and havnt heard anything yet.there are plenty of applicant been waiting from october 15 onwards.lets hope to get AOR soon.
Hopefully, they promised 12 weeks max and next week is 12 to me.

Hi All

Can I use my IELTS result done in JAN 2010 for showing my language proficiency test for citizenship.
I got my PR in May 2013.

Only me in my family have completed 1095 days of residency in Canada after getting PR as my wife and kids came later. Can my minor kids apply with me, though they have not completed 1095 days.

As I went back to my home country after obtaining PR, do I need to get police clearance certificate from that country.

Can I apply for my minor kids along with myself for citizenship, though they have not completed 1095 days yet.my minor kids , one of whom would be 18 in May this year.Would I need police clearance for my son(above 14) who spent more than 6 month in home country after becoming PR

All the answers you're seeking are in the guide.
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...der-subsection-5-1-adults-18-years-older.html

1)
Was the IELTS taken for immigration purposes ?
Is it general, and not academic ?
Did you score 4.0 or higher in speaking, and 4.5 or higher in listening ?

If the answers to those questions are Yes, then you can use your expired IELTS for citizenship.

2) "Within the last 4 years, if you spent 183 days or more in another country (other than Canada), you must provide a police certificate. You must provide a police certificate for each country where you spent 183 days or more. If you cannot get a police certificate, tell us why."

183 days need not be consecutive, if you made multiple trips to the same country, and the sum of those trips is 183 days or more, then you still need to provide a PCC.

3) not an expert on Minor applications. Perhaps, someone who is can help.

Based on what you asked, there are couple things you need to ensure:
1. The child needs to have maintained their PR status
2. Question 9B (very important)... you may need police certificate for them
3. Search and read previous thread about the "Two (2) pieces of the child’s personal identification"... this is confusing. Most people whose application gets returned is for that reason... so do your homework.

See guide for minors below.

About minors

Yes, you can apply for them along you. They do not need to meet 1095 days. They need police certificate if they are 14 and older. Apply as soon as possible, because of the age of your older son. Not sure which date they count- the date they received the application or AOR. I think is AOR and important to receive AOR before he came 18 years.
Be careful which form for minors you fill- 5(2) is correct one, 5(1) is for minors applying independent. But double check.

Hi All,
I received the AOR email on Dec 19, however still not able to access ECAS online (tried multiple options - by appln #, UID, etc)
All other 3 family applicants can access ECAS and see the first 2 status lines.
Anyone with a similar situation? Do you think I should call CIC to check it? (if so - what's the best way to contact them?)
Thanks!

Anyone knows where to go for Fingerprints in Calgary.
And do they sent it directly to CIC?
