That's just fine. Employment is not a requirement for citizenship. People have become citizens with longer periods of unemployment. It happens.

You do need to list that period on the application (there should be no gaps in the timeline); you'd just indicate "unemployed", give the relevant dates, and enter "N/A" for the contact information and location.

I have another question - In accordance with my citizenship eligibility period, I was residing outside Canada (before becoming a PR) for 6 months or so. After I landed in Canada almost 5 years ago, I visited my home country only for a 1 month vacation.

Do I need to fill the Residence Outside Canada form ? I don't think it's applicable to me as it refers to Crown Servant Family Members who were employed outside Canada.

You have to answer "yes" to the question if you lived outside of Canada. Not doing so would be wrong. The application says to include that extra form, so you should include it (otherwise your application may be returned, because it is deemed incomplete).

Enter "N/A" for the two categories that exist, sign and date it. Include it with your application.

The alternative is to write a letter explaining you did not include the "Residence Outside Canada" form because it did not apply to you as you were not employed as a Crown servant. It seems easier to just "N/A" the form and sign it.

Impossible to say. For some people it seems to complete quite quickly, for others it takes multiple months.

For security clearance, it could take much much longer. On my GCMS notes, they had the due date set to 13 months from the application delivery date.

Please advice .. If I exceeded 3 months in Background check and didnt get any test invite what should I do ? Call or wait ?

My online status says decision made now. But when I click for detail, it’s only shows the line shows that they started processing my application from nov. I haven’t got any chance mail or email.

As mentioned previously, there is no such hard deadline of 3 months to complete the checks. Security checks can take longer depending on a person's background. IMO, patiently waiting is prudent.

Thanks for reply .. wow 13 months So do you think I should order GCMS notes to know how much the security checks will take .. Did ordering it reduce that processing security time for you ?

Nope, ordering notes has no effect on your application. And TBH, it was quite useless. I would suggest to wait patiently. Your time will come.
