Dear former students/workers who transioned to PR

I was international student before, then foreign worker with LMO and finally became PR. Soon I will applying for my citizenship.

I have a question seeking your kind help, do I need to include all previous immigration document with my citizenship application like old study permit, work permit etc?

The application check list/guideline does NOT ask for those and I believe CIC has all the recods under my cleint ID.

Still I want to get some experience from you guys who already applied with their pre PR time, did you include any? Or do you beleieve it is better to include them?

Also when you go for post test interview how do the CIC officer treats pre PR time? Do they ask for lot of docs as the proof? - just curious to know for the preperation.

Thanks a lot guys for sharing any relevant info and advise - God bless!

Cheers
Neo

I have pre-PR time and I did not submit any documentation for it. The interviewing officer did not ask me regarding that period.

There is a citizenship applicant on this forum whose file went to the 'referred to CJ pile' - reason was use of NPR time as you have but there was no clear record of what date the NPR time commenced from....CIC should have had it and it sucks the guy is suffering as I recall he is at the 36+ month timeline. Let's face it an extra 3 documents especially that of your first entry vis a vis the huge pile being the norm especially if you have dependent children isn't going to make a difference mailing wise but it could save you a trip to see the CJ. Hint - why do CIC ask for your landing documents...they should have it don't you think?

Hi Oronno,

as of now pre PR time in canada is counted but cic only counts your first two years on a temporary status as (student-foreign worker) and they only give half credit for it so for each day spent on canada as an international student or foreign worker you will only get half a day,in totall you will get one year for your two years and you need to be in canada physically for two more years as a permanent resident under the current rules before you can apply.
i don't see why the pre PR time will cause CJ or trigger an RQ if you can document it and you have meet the 1095 residency requirement, plus cic has your client id which should be the same since you entered canada.
my advice for you is: if you qualify for citizenship and have all documents handy do not delay your application any further as bill C24 could pass anytime and unfortunately its not in favor for pre PR time.

good luck.

Use of NPR time can be and is a trigger as per OB407 triage criteria where such proof of the relevant start point/date of residence time calculation is either not on the documentation or not in CIC's records (CIC's negligence notwithstanding). Of course if its provable then it should not be an issue. There was a notable trend on this forums of applicants applying later than when they could just to avoid use of NPR time. The impending changes in the Citizenship Act means this may not be an option.

These days so many people apply with non PR time who got PR under PNP/CEC class. I hope CIC has better process and record to judge those application.

Anyone out there had trouble or got RQ because of including non PR time in the residence time calculation?
