Citizenship Application while outside Canada - how do you record current trip?

Hello folks,

I am currently outside Canada and meet the requirements to apply for Canadian citizenship (I had to withdraw my previous application after 2 years, had applied previously in June 2020). I am filling the online application and have recorded all my trips in the physical presence calculator.

My questions -
-- Is it ok to apply for Citizenship while outside Canada? Will it affect processing times?
-- how do I record the current trip in the physical presence calculator? (cannot put a future return date for current trip)
-- I left Canada for my vacation on June 20th 2022, so can I put June 20 as my application date and this way not record my current trip for which I do not have a return date yet? (or will this be considered misinterpretation?)

Thank you for your time.

Garry

There are a number of posts regarding this issue. You may want to search the forum. For all practical purposes, it is impossible to apply for citizenship while outside Canada without misrepresentation. Also, you could also face challenges of an expired PR card or meeting residence requirements till your citizenship application is approved.

There is also a lot of discussion regarding applicants who have taken the test while outside Canada. So far, only two reported cases here of those who have taken the oath while being outside Canada.

Hello, thank you for your response. I am concerned about misinterpretation as well. I have a renewed PR card, so I am covered on that front. Let me search through the forum again and see if I can find answers to my questions.

Easy approach: if you are on a "vacation," apply when you return to Canada.

Most of the discussions in other topics about applying from outside Canada are about PRs either living abroad (outside Canada) or otherwise abroad for an extended period of time (as in something more than a "vacation"), which includes those relocating outside Canada while the application is pending (which quite a few more or less deceptively refer to as "traveling" outside Canada -- living abroad is not the same as traveling abroad).

If rather than just on vacation you have relocated abroad for an extended period of time, as @akbardxb suggested it may be worth your while to peruse the various discussions here about being outside Canada while the application is in process. However, be aware it is not a simple subject. There are some significant unknowns. There are conflicting views. It is a subject that tends to invite controversy (more than a few conflate or outright confuse what can influence the process versus what some believe should not be allowed to influence the process). And how it goes for a particular applicant can be very individual specific, depending on the extent to which there may be other circumstances elevating the risk of non-routine processing for example.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. It is indeed not a simple subject! There are too many ifs and buts. I'd rather wait and apply when I return to Canada from my vacation. Now it's time to get back to my vacation and stop worrying about this! Thanks once again!
