Hi, I have been filling out citizenship application and I am not 100% sure how to fulfill this part in "tell us what have you been doing...".

1. I was unemployed for couple of months on and off throughout last 5 years, and in the form under the column "occupation, field of employment..." I have wrote Unemployed/House wife, but I am not sure what to write under the column "name of employer, school, business or other" - should I put N/A or write "other"?
I am afraid to leave it blank and then get application returned.

2. I was Self-employed but working for others and I have put those companies information under "name of employer", but when I recently stopped working for this one company and went more freelance, I am not sure what to put under that second column ("name of employer, school, business or other") will it be OK if I just put freelance Self-employed? With my home address?

Also, do I need to specify in more details what kind of freelance work do I do?

Please help, I just want to fill everything right :)

This is a little tricky. When i got laid off from work,i put "Unemployed on EI". And the months/year i was on it (3 months in my case). I did a lot of contract work in the past, hence i went to log on to my CRA account and went through all T4 i have in my name and checked my records for when were they. You have to make sure you declare everything and don't leave any months without any entry or they will return it to you. As for the company name, match it up with your tax forms declarations you received income from. I am an employee and was never self employed so i don't know much about your case. But yeah CRA will have your tax forms. Best of luck!

Thank you for your kind reply.

Can you please just tell me what you wrote on your application under "name of employer, school, business or other" when you've listed Unemployed on EI?

Hi,

On that line:
"Occupation, Field of employment etc...." i wrote: Unemployed (on E.I.).
"Name of employer, school, etc...."i wrote: Other
"Address of this place...." i wrote: Other activity

Hope this helps. Wait for others to chime in to see what they did. So far my application has not been returned. But yeah good luck :)

For my period of unemployment I wrote N/A for the name of employer and my home address under the employer address field.

When you are not working or freelancing/self-employed you will still be doing it from some location. Just write that location for the address.

That's what I did and I have received my AOR from IRCC
