Citizenship application Question

Hi All,
I'm new in citizenship application and would like to know some of the acronyms used here.
1. What is RQ? I guess AOR means acknowledgment of receipt.
2. Anyone(especially males) ever made slight change(s) to their name when filling the application? Was it easily approved or will it delay things?
A typical example of mine is like changing a last name from Smith to Smit

RQ means "Residence Questionnaire." Its what you don't want to get. CIC gives it when they have doubts about your residency. It often involves making an accounting of your life since landing and submitting a truck load of supporting documents--all within 45 days. CIC has been issuing these left, right and center recently, supposedly in a an effort to crack down on fraud. Receiving an RQ often delays your application on the magnitude of years.

A common reason for getting Resident Questionnaire is when the applicant has traveled outside Canada after he/she became a permanent resident and before applying for citizenship. You should not be worried about this if you did not travel in the period i mentioned. In case you have traveled, just provide CIC with all the proofs to confirm you meet the residence requirements when you apply. Add copies of the travel stamps, boarding passes, tickets etc.

I will suggest you go through with the citizenship process using your current/previous name(s) and change it after you become citizen.

RQ may trigger for many reason. Among them few could be: Doubtful travel, stay overseas for longer period during the 4 year period, Discrepancies on calculation of 1095 physical presence, having previous passports, documents submitted with application not clear to the officer, frequent change of residence in past 4 years, family ties (children school documents), lacking proof of work documents (T4/Tax assessment/etc) and so on....
