Citizenship Application - Minor

Hello Guys,

We got confused about minor's ID. CIC is not considering PR Card and Passport as an ID as they have requested those documents which are mandatory with the application of minor. For my son, we have his Health Card (Alberta) as 1 piece of ID and I have requested for his School Record which we would get by next month. But none of these IDs have his Photo on it. In this case what should we do?

I am thinking about taking 1 ID for my son from the Registry but I am not sure they will provide an ID for a minor.

Please share your thoughts.

Thanks

You can repeat the document. For example you provide copies for Biographical pages for all required passport's, under Biographical pages of all required passports.

Then for 2 piece ID you attach the current passport's biographical page, with another piece of ID for kids, a health card etc.

What made you think that cic doesn't accept passport or PR card as ID document? Your question is a little bit vague. Anyways we provided passport twice for kids with Health Card, as I wrote above under 2 different required categories. Didn't add PR card as it was expired for us and wanted to keep IDs current.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Please find one of our Forum member's post

"I called CIC when I applied on 12 October for the 2 id for the minor, at least one of them with photo to ask about my 2 kids less than 7 years.
She clearly reply me that PR and Passport are not include this step because its already requested before, I sent a copy of the health card and school record, then I attached a lettre explain that I have no more id for the kids with photo because of the age.
Thanks"

This make me confused.

Any way I am going to send his Biographical page of the Passport and Health Card and his school record as well.

Thanks

I only submitted PP, health card, and PR (which I believe they wouldn't count it as an ID). Hopefully, these would be enough!

I just posted the following on another thread:

I think most of us who have done or about to do applications for minors are confused when it comes to the additional IDs issue. Consider this, the Checklist says:
1. photocopy of PR card
2. photocopies of passport
3. photocopy of 2 pieces of child's personal identification, one of which must have a photo, then they refer to the guide which says:
Two (2) pieces of the child’s personal identification

Both pieces of identification should show your child’s name and date of birth, one of which must have a photo on it.

Examples include:
school record
health insurance card

The problem is there is no photo on school record and health insurance (in Ontario and maybe other provinces) for children under 16

We added Passport+Health for kids under 2 piece of ID. Current Passport was repeated, and that worked.

While the checklist says PR card, the guide does not mention that but only passport and Two (2) pieces of the child’s personal identification

Examples include
  • school record
  • health insurance card
So, do you think the PR card would be considered as the 2nd photo ID beside passport + health + school record?

I do not think there is any reason for not accepting that as a piece of ID. It's a Canadian issued ID, I don't see a reason for it not being a valid piece of required document. Just make sure you add PR card under PR and mention 2 piece of ID and mention what you included. Use sticky notes or printed header, that a personal choice.

For my son (about 12) , I requested his school and they issued a school ID card bearing his photo, date of birth and name.

For my other two children - below 10- I requested there schools as well but no ID card bearing photo was issued. However, the letter they issued bears their names; date of birth and names of both parents along with address.

As stated by most of the colleagues, the medical insurance and school record does not bears a photo for minors so I attached an explanatory letter about it along with the application. Hoping that it would be taken into consideration.

BTW, I attached copy of passports and PR cards.

Just to share my own experience. We applied for our son (9 years old) and submitted PR card + health card for the two pieces of identification and we got AOR.

I put the PR card (both sides of PR card) twice. One for photocopy of both sides of your child's Permanent Resident Card (PRC). And another one for photocopy of two pieces of your child's personal identification, one of which must have a photo on it.
(Along with the health card).

I read in this forum that someone was told by an IRCC agent that PR card isn't considered as a piece of personal identification, so if you didn't send your application maybe it's worth it to include a copy of the passport or other ID.

No, I didn't send an explanation letter regarding that.
