Hello, I had a doubt with question 13, it says "do you currently or have you ever held any immigration/ citizenship status in any country outside of canada? (student, employment, worker)". I was staying in a country on a residence permit, do I mention that? It was not citizenship, only a residency permit, its expired now, I am not sure if I should write it. Please help! thank You!

@k.h.p Thank you so much! Another question, After I left the country I had my residence permit in, I went to stay at my home country for two months before landing in Canada for the first time. So, do I mention the address of my grandparents' house in my home country for question 10? It asks to write all the addresses I lived at in my eligibility period. Thank you!

If you had a status other than visitor, yes, you need to write it.
@k.h.p. @Chhea ..."If you had a status other than visitor, yes, you need to write it."

Immigration status covers all categories including student, employment/job/worker, refugee, citizen, permanent resident, tourist, visitor...

I had officially double-checked with ircc specifically about "immigration status" mentioned in Q13 of the Citizenship application. The answers were: you should include all countries where you had visited even as a tourist/visitor. In addition, even though you'd obtained a visa for a country but could not physically visit there, you should still mention it in the table of Q13.

2nd reference is ircc glossary which defines:

*Immigration status: A non-citizen’s position in a country—for example, permanent resident or visitor.

If there is a mistake on my application, Should I wait for the application to be returned after 6 months or should I resend my application again and include a cover letter explaining the situation?

  • Tell us which countries you have held status in, and exactly what status you held or currently hold (student, employment/worker, refugee/protected person, permanent resident or citizen).

Also I have another question, for question 5, it asks me to write down all the previous names I have used, I don't have any i.e I have never changed my name. What do I write in the table then??

The Help icon, "?" against Q13 reads..."Tell us if you have had immigration, permanent resident status and/or Citizenship status in any other country...",

and the bulleted point further below I quote, "Tell us which countries you have held status in, and exactly what status you held or currently hold (student, employment/worker, refugee / protected person, permanent resident or citizen). "

The "Visitor" status is conspicuously absent. I think the intent of the question was more focused on study/work / residency/Citizenship status..and less focused on visitors. But no harm in detailing.

I am not a legal expert...please see it as another opinion!

If nothing to enter, you can leave it blank. What we did in such case if not explicitly advised, after filling all information and taking a print out, just to highlight it is intentionally left blank, we also put a "dash" (by pen) in the first field.

If a minor is aged 14 or younger, it says that they dont have to sign the application. But the application has a box for minor's to sign, do I just write "N/A" in that box then?

I would just put down my birth name. If you don’t want to, N/A but don’t leave blank
