Hi All
Our previous citizenship application was abandoned because we missed a couple of oath ceremony invitations. This happened due to COVID lockdowns and the birth of our child in India, which delayed the sponsorship application process. After returning to Canada, we requested IRCC to give us another chance to take the oath, but they replied that they could not reopen the file and advised us to submit a new application.
We tried reapplying, but the physical presence calculator showed we needed to wait until June 2026. Since we believed our reasons were genuine, we decided to apply earlier with explanation letters about why we missed the oaths for our first application.
We submitted the new application in June 2024, but it was returned as incomplete due to the physical presence requirement. It seemed they didn’t review our explanation letters. We resubmitted the application in October 2024 with another explanation letter.
IRCC accepted the application and requested a PCC from India, which we submitted in November. The background check was completed on December 13, 2024, but we’re still waiting for updates.
We called IRCC today, and the agent said our application is still under review and that they don’t need any additional information from us at the moment. I asked why the status hasn’t been updated to show the PCC was received instead of "Waiting on you," and the agent said to ignore that status as they have received it. When I asked if our application was being treated as non-routine, the agent said it was a general application and still within normal timelines. They also mentioned it’s being processed by the Sydney office and hasn’t been assigned to the local Toronto office yet. I’m wondering why there’s a delay in transferring it to the local office.
@scylla or other seniors, do you have any insights on what might happen?
