Hi, does anyone know which CIC office handles citizenship grant applications for the Northwestern Ontario area once they are in process? The reasn I am asking is that I am applying from Dryden, which is literally more than 20 hours by car to Toronto area. Where would I be asked to write my citizenship test...just want to be prepared to be away from work and plan transport etc.

Oh man, I grew up in Dryden. I didn't think anyone ever immigrated there lol.

Your office will likely be Sudbury, but my understanding is they do itinerant services up to the North once or twice a year. They'll do your test, document verification interview and your oath all in one day. I think they closed the local office in Thunder Bay when the Harper cuts hit in 2012.

Call the IRCC call centre to ask for sure.

In fact, there was an Oath ceremony in Kenora at a hockey fame just last week. A special one for Canada 150. I read about it in the paper.

just apply, CIC will take care of the rest.
You can always indicate to them in letter that you're willing to travel to other office to get it processed faster rather than waiting for special services in the north

There are itinerant services provided in Thunder Bay, usually three or four times a year. "Local office" for most of NWO, last I knew, was still in Mississauga, albeit it appears that processing is grouped, meaning NWO applicants are processed as a group separate from other groups also processed in the Mississauga offices.

Fairly sure the Thunder Bay group for services includes areas as far west as Ignace. Not at all sure about Dryden.

If Dryden is not included with Thunder Bay area in the Mississauga office for processing, it will most likely be Winnipeg. Not sure where that office provides itinerant services.

Good news is that for routine applications for Thunder Bay they often schedule test and interview with oath to be taken within a day or three, or at least within a week. Bad news is if there is any reason to not proceed to the oath that quickly (basically while the team is in Thunder Bay for the batch being processed together) it will usually be at least three to five more months before they will back for another oath ceremony. Actual locations can vary around the city.
