Hi all,

I have completed my 4 year bachelors with excellent academic record. But admission deadlines have long gone in Canadian universities for early 2015. My question:

If I study a post-grad certificate (1 year or more) from a Canadian college, then am I eligible to apply for Citizenship after successfully completing my 2 years of study and work?

Many thanks!

No.

There isn't a program you can study and graduate from that will fast track you to citizenship. None at all.

It is more complicated than you may think. Firstly, after completion of your certificate program, you would have to apply for a post-graduation work permit and whose duration will be just 1 year since your program will be just a 1 year program ( You can't renew the PGWP after it expires ) so better go for a 2 years program because it will make you eligible for a 3 years PGWP.

Secondly, one you get your PGWP you would have to get a skilled job NOC 0, A or B (for some PNPs ) then you can apply for permanent residence if you satisfy all requirements, you can apply trough one of the provincial nominee programs or through the Canadian Experience Class program.

Finally, you can't apply for citizenship unless you have permanent residence, in fact you cannot meet the residence requirements for citizenship without a minimum of 2 years as a permanent resident and also to be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must have lived in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days)

The 1095 days are calculated as follows:

each day you lived in Canada before you became a permanent resident counts as half a day;
each day you lived in Canada after you became a permanent resident counts as one day;
