Some of the application items will remain unchanged after C6 has been implemented. If I am being proactive and start collecting some of the documentation are some items fine to be predated prior to the C6 implementation date. For example, if I get the citizenship photographs developed with a date stamp prior to C6 implementation would this example be acceptable or are they fairly strict??

Photographs are valid for 6 months. So you can submit pics as old as this, as long as they do not change current photograph requirement regarding size etc. By the way, they have not changed since 2012. But there is no guarantee they will not change these, so you may end up paying twice. Pictures take 5 minutes at a drug store, not worth being pro-active perhaps.

I landed in May 2013 to become PR and went back to my country (USA) immediately. Later I moved to Canada permanently in Jan 2014. I have been living in Canada since then except for a month this year when I visited my parents in India. If C6 come into effect in September and I apply right away, will I need any police clearance certificate from USA or India?

Hi Everyone,

I am coming back to this site after a long while. Got my PR in September 2013. Waiting to apply for citizenship, but have to get to 1460 days - still 30 days left. After reading some posts here, I'm slightly confused about Bill C-6 and C-24.

Wasn't it Bill C-24 that was supposed to lessen the number of years required to be a Citizen? Or Bill C-24 relates with no. of years required for PRC renewal status? Could that be it? Apologies for my ignorance and grateful if some one help me sort it out. If there are any links that can describe this clearly, that would be much appreciated too.

Thank you.

This would give you a better idea. C6 is the one which you want to shorter the waiting period and less requirement.

Hi. I landed april 2017. Am I eligible to apply canadian citizenship this year? I never leave Canada.

I am confused, it says at least 3 years of 5years?
so 3/3 is okay?
3 years should be ok for you . for 2015 and 2016 just say on the application form that you were not allowed to fill and you did not fill.

Good luck!

Okay. Thank you so much.
I have 1 more question. My passport and pr card will expire next month. I got married last January, my surname on my passport and pr is my father’s surname. But my health card, sin, ontario photo id is my married surname. Is it okay not to renew and change my surname on my passport and pr if I apply for citizenship?

For your pr you do not need it to apply, do not worry about it. Your passport can or cannot be valide when you apply this is not an issue. For your others IDs, my wife has my last name + her last name on her passport (we are married) and her birth's name on the rest of IDs and pr card . You do not need a legal change of name for marriage . I will advice to send a copy of your marriage certificate, that is what my wife did.
Hope this helps !

Did she use your last name on her passport?
