If i apply outside of Canada as a non resident, do i need to be a resident of another country or on a work visa.
For example if i am waiting out the verdict in Brazil with my husband on a tourist visa, can i still apply from brazil although i have no residental or work status??

Are you the applicant or the sponsor? Which class are you applying in?
The applicant needs to be in status in the country he/she is applying from, the sponsor need to be a canadian citizen if applying from outside Canada.

see link, this may help

i am the sponsor. the applicant will be applying in his native country of Brazil.
family class spousal sponsorship. He will stay in Brazil,
and i AM a canadian citizen outside of Canada. but im wondering does it matter if im applying in Brazil as a sponsor on a tourist visa, or does it not matter (where i am or what kind of visa im on when i apply) since i will be sending in my sponsorship forms to mississauga anyways?

hmm.

i just read while applying for a work visa abroad you need to have "status" wherever you are applying to.
i am not sure if this applies to me abroad. or what exactly that would mean if it did apply.
tourist status. temp work status. resident status.
as i am on tourist status

if i remember the guides (or the old ones at least) u r not considered non-resident if u live in another country with tourist visa....even if it's for longer time and with multiple tourist visas...which is actually good cuz u don't need to prove ur return to Canada :) u will go back anyways once ur visa expires...from their point of view u r temporarily outside Canada...of course u can explain this in a letter or note :)

it does not matter where the sponsor is, as a Canadian citizen u can b anywhere, visiting, whatever....actually it's better to b a visitor than with working/studying visa which imply a more permanent stay outside Canada and that might need proofs that u plan to return...u can continue visiting ur husband until his visa is ready; good luck!! :)

This relates to the applicant.
You the sponsor will need to show proof that you will be returning to Canada. eg, job offer, school sorted for the kids etc, etc

only if it looks she is there permanently; but visitor visa is not permanent ::) anyway a letter explaining her situation would b good; describe the loose ties in Brazil => strong ties in Canada;

back to the initial post: show that when u left Ca u didn't leave permanently (in terms of taxes, bank accounts, credit cards, housing, car, mobile plans, memberships, family ties, friends, employment); and yeah actually some embassies r more strict abt the sponsor return proofs, others less, depends from case to case, region to region :) :) :)

by the way since when have u been visiting Brazil? is it less than 6 months? do u go back to Ca often? how often and when was the last time? all these answers will help u write a better "return letter" :)

What has been your status for the last few years? Working outside of Canada in various countries as an entertainer? Could you possibly say Canada was your 'home base'? Or were you outside Canada the whole time?
In any case, you can apply as a sponsor while living in Brazil as a tourist. You should explain your status and recent history in a letter attached to your sponsorship forms.

i have been out of canada a lot travelling around as an entertainer yes. brazil a few months of the year on a tourist visa.

but i plan to make whatever changes needed for us to start our new life together in Canada.

i just wasnt sure if i need some sort of work our study visa to be considered to have "status" to apply in another country as a sponsor.

but since i am the sponsor if it doesnt matter/ or actually improves my situation to be on tourist visas in different destinations then even better!!!!

thank you for your help and suggestions everybody!!
it's really relieving a lot of the stress and frustration!!!
