CIT0001E Application Section 8B

Hi,

Just a little background. I'm Canadian ( so are my parents for the matter of the question) and my wife is Chinese. We just had a baby boy and I'm looking to get him citizenship.

The application is pretty straight forward up until section 8B. I'm a little confused with the question and looking for clarification. I'm assuming because I (the applicant's parent) was born in Canada that I would just check NO for both questions? or do I need to check YES to the first one as my parent's are both Canadian.

What was the question in the application? is it regarding you or your parents w.r.t your grandparents?

Here is the wording of the question:


8B Applicant's Grandparents:
"1)If the applicant's parent was born outside Canada, was one his/her parents (i.e. one of the Applicant's grandparents) a Canadian citizen at the time of his/her birth?" NO/YES

Question 2 is about my parents being employed outside Canada as a crown servant so it doesn't apply to me.



Just to reiterate my background, My parents and I were both born in Canada. My wife is Chinese and our son was born in China. I'm just looking to get him Canadian citizenship.

The question 8C is "Was the child's grandparent(s) a Canadian citizen at the time of their parent's birth"?. The same question you have to answer for you as well as for your wife.
For your part:
Since, at the time of your birth, your parents already was a citizen, you can select "YES".

For your wife's part:
Since, at the time of her birth, none of her parents were a citizen, you can select "NO".

The part that had me confused was the first part, which I assumed I'd answer NO to, "1)If the applicant's parent was born outside Canada". I was born in Canada so it has me thinking these questions don't apply to my situation.

I have my parent's information (birth certificate copies) anyways so, If I do as you suggested and answer YES, I don't think I'll be penalized for supplying too much information.

I was earlier looking at the citizenship grant application - sorry.
For the certificate application, in your situation, you can put "NO" for that question. The grandparent situation is irrelevant since you have filled out the previous section where the details of you as a Canadian citizen was given.

Resurrecting this topic, because I have the same question with an additional question! Apologies if this is redundant, but if I check NO, is that then claiming that my Canadian-born father was born outside of Canada? Is it better to not answer at all, since the question does not apply? Norgar, did you have any difficulties submitting with the NO checked? This is my first post, so I'm hoping I'm not breaking any rules by asking a question on top of someone else's! Thanks!

Hi Paul, it sounds like you're replying to my question since Norgar's was resolved. Mine is kind of just a piggyback to his question; there is no baby in this scenario, it's just me, and my father was born in Canada. I'm assuming, since question 8B refers to parents who were born OUTSIDE of Canada, that this question does not apply. If this is the case, I'm not sure I should check any of the answers off?

I filled out 8B like this (father was born in Canada, did not check any of the boxes on his section of 8B) and included a cover letter explaining that I didn't check anything because he was born in Canada and my CIT 0001E application by descent was approved.
