I asked CIC staffs 2 times what should I do if I want to change my address inside canada,if I have change my address before receiving acknowledgment letter?they told me these info:
it takes 2 months to open each envelope from the time that they receive applications
acknowledgment letter is not very important.I can check my status by my permanent resident card client ID after 2 months.I can download discover canada book from website
the last one is that they will never update your address unless they began processing your file.

My case was different as we moved to our new house 4 months after applying & so we called and updated our address & it was updated on the website way before they started processing our case.

it does not matter how long after you applied ,then you moved.They will not update address unless they have sent you the letter of acknowledgment .basically as what he said,acknowledgment letter is not very important.you can update your address aprox 2 months after sending your package and at any time you can check your status with you PR client Id number

You can update your address in ecas.

before they open ur envelop ,you cannot because there is no file there in their system.

I had a sponsorship case with cic, I updated the address with ecas, but it was not processed for months,I called in and informed them,updated right away....

citizenship is not sponsorship .there are tens of immigration visa types that changing address before having the file is possible.

Sponsorship or citizenship, I am just saying updating via ecas alone is not reliable, I had to call in to see my address change...
