@Ryder, how do you get a work permit by flagpoling? Is it possible to get a bridging open work permit this way? Does it mean that gathering documents, submitting an application to CIC and waiting for 90 days can all be bypassed by a trip to the border?

It was confusing because on the CIC website, it is worded to make you believe you must wait to receive your AOR before you can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit. Because my visa was due to expire before I had even submitted my paperwork to CIC, i flagpoled at the Peace Arch border crossing and took my certificate of BC PNP, passport, current work permit and the reference number for the employer compliance form which my employer completed online. 30 minutes later I had a 2 year work permit, but it is specific to my current employer and job title under which I applied for BC PNP. My common-law girlfriend was also given a 2 year open work permit at the same time. Hope this helps somewhat.

Hello Seniors,
I have sent my paper based application today to CIC, may I know whether they will confirm receiving my application or not, what will be the next course of action? time frame ? :) thanks in advance.

If you sent it via registered (signed for) post, then just check your delivery tracking number until it shows that it was received at the visa office. They will not actively notify you that they have received it. In about 1-3 months you will receive an email with your AOR (acknowledgement of receipt), and then about a week later they will ask you to link your application to your online profile so you can monitor any updates. After you do this, you will joiningg myself and many others in the long road of waiting. Some applicants are still waiting to receive a request for medical exam after 1 year.
