Hi I'm an American married to a Canadian applying for PR status. My husband was approved to sponsor me and my application was sent to Ottawa. Is this bad? I thought it was supposed to go to LA or something. Our case is pretty straightforward no criminal record, no medical issues, we've been legally married for 3 yrs and have a kid together (we did elope so no ceremony photos though). Does anybody have any experience dealing with this Ottawa location instead of the local visa office?

it's normal. Ottawa is the Visa Office for US residents ( I know, it's strange). CIC has closed some of the visa offices in the US, and most applicants are going through Ottawa. If an interview is needed, then your file might be transferred to one of the remaining VO in the US, but otherwise everything could be done from Ottawa.

With 3 years married, living together and a kid, your chances of getting an interview are pretty slim, so most likely your file will stay in Ottawa for the duration of the process (which is a good thing).
Nothing to worry about!

Ok thanks! I know my case is relatively simple but this whole process just makes me anxious! (especially the waiting)

it does that for everybody :-) so it's normal... there is an outland thread for US residents and citizen here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/us-outland-applicants-thread-t106068.2490.html you can get support there, and there is a spreadsheet, so you'll have a better idea of what to expect...
Good luck,
