Hello,

I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to the course of actions I should be taking.. I sent my application to sponsor my wife who lives outside of Canada to CIC Mississauga on 2014-08-22, on 2014-09-26 I received a correspondence via email from CIC notifying me that my application is incomplete and indicating the documents I have to re-submit.

I submitted the missing documents via Canada Post and when i tracked the package # it confirmed delivery happened on 2014/10/15.

Multiple times I've called into the CIC call center to get a status update referencing information in the original correspondence and nothing until today when I received a mail with the same text as the e-mail correspondence that happened 2 months ago indicating the same exact documents are missing.

Which basically indicates they misplaced/lost what I sent in on 2014/10/15 that I have tracking confirmation it was delivered, unfortunately I did not know that I had to request for "signature" when sending via Canada Post Xpress, so I don't have the name of the person that accepted the package on the other end but I would hope they have some audit process for all incoming mail.

Today I spoke to yet another agent at the CIC Call Center, and he basically told me to send CPC Mississauga an email directly including all of the information I have received/done, I have submitted the email.

But I fear I am at a loss, what can I do at this point?

try resending the documents again, not just by mail, but also by email and/or fax. depending on the form they are requesting, they may accept scanned/faxed copies. when i submitted my missing IMM 5406, it was accepted by email.

or, call the sponsor's member of parliament and ask them to inquire on your behalf.

Thank you for the reply, when you say call the sponsor's member of parliament..

This would be the member of parliament of the province I reside in? I live in New Westminster, British Columbia.

According to the http://www.parl.gc.ca/Parliamentarians/en/members?currentOnly=true&province=BC there are 36 members from BC, who would I write to or call out of that list?

Thank you.
yes, that is correct. generally, when i google "how do i find my member of parliament", some search thing comes up. it is based on your physical address, so you plug it in, and your specific mp would pop up with contact information. some mp's are helpful, some are not. they would be able to make a call and get information you wouldn't be able to. cic must respond to an MP's request within a specific amount of days.

I did locate my MP, I have contacted CIC Mississauga via email which is the first time I've done this, I used to call the CIC help center but this got me nowhere and they told me to email them.

I am also going to contact my MP to see if this reaches him.

I'm on the exact same boat! Originally submitted August 22, email requesting updated forms September 25 September 25, confirmed with Canada post that it was delivered October 1. I called CIC numerous times and they have not been able to give me any updates. However I have not received anything in the mail or by email requesting the same documents again. I feel absolutely helpless.today I sent an email to try to put the matter into my own hands that are relying on the agents. Fingers crossed! I feel your pain! I wonder what happened?!

Oh and I also got my member of Parliament involved and unfortunately they can't find out any more information than you can. The agent will give them exactly the same for me, which is basically nothing

that is certainly not true. it depends on the effort of the MP. there are plenty of cases where an MP helps track down information not available to sponsors or applicants, and they can help extend deadlines so the file doesn't close. Also, CIC MUST (as in they are obligated to by law) respond to an MPs request within a certain number of days. CIC is NOT obligated to respond to applicants or sponosrs at all. just because your MP didn't get anything helpful, doesn't mean other MPs dont and people shouldn't try to reach out to them. it's not fair to generalize. it is pretty well known that some are not helpful while others are. i would suggest reading missmalanti's posts about how her mp helped them get in touch with CIC.

I will send in the requested documents again and also engage my mp, i have also e-mailed them requesting an update as to why I am getting the request for the same document.

On the document, they are requiring form IMM5406.. on the CIC website I found the form but when I download it it shows up as IMM5406E, at the bottom of the PDF in the footer it says IMM 5406 (09-2013) E. The "E" at the end is throwing me off.. I want to make sure I've got the correct form. anyone know?

The "E" stands for English, as there is a French (F) version of the form too.

Mine was helpful as well, they called the CIC TWICE on my behalf.

They did the same to me . I emailed Mississauga and they got back to me saying it was an eorror in the computer system . In the meantime i sent another set of documents , because the call center told me i had to comply other wise my case will be closed due to none responsive action. I also was so upset i got in touch with my MP. My MP was able to find the original documents and was able to clear the matter up for me.

Well I guess it's just that I'm having bad luck from all ends because the MP office that was helping me wasn't helpful at alllll :( I'm going to try calling a different office, maybe that will help? Ughhhhh I'm litterally emotionally and mentally exhausted at this point.

I would imagine an mp will only help if you are one of their constituants (meaning you live in the area they represent). I am not sure just calling random mp's will result in anything, though I'm sure you can try to see if anyone else in your city is willing to help.

I just wanted to weight in my experience... I went in and talked to my mp and they did an inquiry on my behalf and they got a response within a few days; a day later I got an email communication from CIC.

Use this as your last resort, I would suggest to anyone to use the CIC call center first and if you are getting nowhere after 2+ months as far as a response then consider using other resources available to you such as talking to your MP and explaining your case and see if they can make an inquiry on your behalf.
