CIC correspondence - Email or mail in envelope

I have a question to all members in this forum. Does CIC or IRCC correspond back to you for your citizenship application through email or do they mail in letter to your home? I am talking about scheduling test dates or oath invitations ? Are they all email ?

You will see updates on ECAS but they will send you letters in the mail regarding test and oath dates..Best wishes!

How detailed are the updates on ECAS. Does it say the actual date/time of the test/oath and location ?

Please note e-cas may not update properly so all you need to do is to check e-cas regularly, monitor your email and check for your physical mail all together.

Ecas can be delayed in updating. Also for the events like test/interview date you have to take the letter that you will receive from IRCC to the test/interview.
Ecas only mention the stage your application is in and that's all.

Is the letter send through email or is it physically mailed to your home address?

What I have observed in the past in this forum is that people get notified by email or sometimes by mail. Also, not e-cas sometimes updates and sometimes not. Don't fully rely on e-cas.

All you have to do is check your emails regularly, check e-cas for updates and monitor your physical mailbox everyday for any updates from CIC.

This is what the update on ECAS will say:

We sent you a notice on October XX, 2016 to appear and write the citizenship test on November XX, 2016 at 8:30 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.


The physical letter you will receive in the mail will be more detailed to include location of test/oath and several other required documents you must take with you. Also either of the two (Letter in mail/ECAS update) will pop up first. Some receive letter in the mail, for me it was ECAS update before the letter arrived in the mail so monitor both closely..
