Hi everyone,

I am planning taking my 3 yr old child with me for my 2-year master degree. It's highly possible I would apply to transfer to a 5-year PhD program during my furture study. So it's much longer than 6 months. I am not sure how should I deal with visa for my child. Is it that I need to apply vistor visa for my child now and use it to land in canada for her. When we land in canada, then I should begin to apply extending her visa. Is it true? I didn't find specific part to illustrate this on offical immigration and citizenship website. Is there anybody know about this?

Thank you very much.

The child needs a TRV to come to Canada. When you enter, request a Visitor Record to match your study permit. If you extend your study permit, you will extend the child's visitor status.

Hi canuc_in_uk,

Did you mean to request a vistor record at the airport while entering instead of applying online after landed? Because I have heard storys that I can't get my child covered by UHIP (university health insurance plan) untill visitor record is granted. I am pretty concerned, especially at the time of pandemic.

As I said, when entering.
