After landing you can get your SIN, open a bank account and then apply for CCTB, their is no waiting period and being a landed immigrant , you are eligible. Child should be in Canada.

You and the child must be living in Canada to qualify for the benefit.

Of course your children should be here as their evidence of landing(copr) would be taken into consideration why processing the benefit.

Correct, Canadian Govt should stop CTB, old age pension, OHIP, immunisation, drug card, disability benifit, free education, EI, NSL, OSAP, tax refunds etc and concentrate on canadian economy. It should be no longer a welfare state and concentrate on economy. I am wondering for whom the economy should be re- focused, for the govt or for the people. If the answer is for the people them, the benifit programs do help the people. One time or another everybody need these kind of social benifits and if you do not want to avail these benifit(s) it is your wish.
Consider with the number of layoffs no EI, NSL etc how the person going to survive? Who will pay the monthly expense till one finds a new job.
Why CTB is given? It is an assistance given for bringing up kids by parents. If parents are making less money then higher amount like $370 is given and once parents are making good money then it is around $70. Parents do not produce or raise the kids considering this benifit , a lot more is required to raise a kid. In a country like Canada as per study on an average it requires $250,000 to raise a kid.
If you dont want CTB or any other benifit after you land, it is your wish. But the same thought need not be forced on other people.

We have landed on 24th May'12 but we plan to return to get settle down next year, in this case do we need apply for CTB? Morally I thought not to apply but it seems applying after 11 month period will be more complicated as more documents need to be attached, can seniors advise pls?

Yes, they should stop the benefits but then stop taking the taxes too . Governament is not giving anything from their pockets it all comes from public taxes

It can be applied ay any time, on your 2nd visit also. No documents are required to be attached, just a form to be sent by post.

The CTB here is peanut compared to Ireland .CTB in ireland is not means tested and it paid right up to the age of 18 :'(This one of the things that wrecked the Irish economy .
