I am a new immigrant of just 4 weeks and i was told we can apply for child care benefit for our children immediately since we have our SIN. We got our SIN 4 weeks ago on landing at YYZ.
I have checked the form and it requires we should enter our income for the last 2 years.

1. Now how would the verify my income since i was working as a freelancer in my home country and was being payed in cash, check and other informal means?

2. My wife also worked in an organization and she was paid in cash, no payslip

So in this case, how do we prove our income or would they not ask for proof? How do we go about this please? Thank you all

Getting income as cash doesn't mean it cannot be filed properly.
Do you file tax in your originated country? I think that can be used as proof.

Somecountries dont have taxes what can be done about that?but any ways i dont think any proof is required maybe someone can provide more information

You need to calculate based on bank account or ledger. When you work or have a business you should keep records of your income. If you were able to immigrate and based on your country of origin it must be a realistic income.

As per immigration, we got a gift deed from parents . The truth is that i can't even say how much i made because it is scattered and not regular. I think i would just have to forfeit the child care benefits for now till i spend at least a year here.

My wife paid taxes as she was in a formal employment. However, she couldn't get her tax papers before we left,so there is no proof. Mine is a bit complicated as i wasn't captured in the tax bracket instead we were levied from time to time and i don't have the documents.
I didn't foresee this situation otherwise i would have tidied things up before leaving.
I think i would have to forfeit the CCB for now at least till the next 1 to 2 years

Can you not access your bank records? Im assume you must have deposited your salaries. You also had to submit your bank records when applying for PR.

I can access it. However, the issue is how to show proof of my own earnings in the midst of so many transactions.Besides, we had money gift from parents during application.

You'll have to work that out with CRA but you can't be the first person to be paid in cash.
