Hi
Asking for my sister.
She has study permit and has been in Canada for more than 18 months . She applied for study permit extension and it is under process ( her current study permit expired but she applied for extension before expiray date) .
Can she apply for CCB now or she needs to wait until she gets her new study permit as per CRA criteria you need to have a valid temporary permit on 19 month ( now procession time time is about 80 days )

I think I can confidently say YES, because she still has an implied status, which is considered valid in all contexts.

Hello, following on this thread.

I have a question. We’re here as temporary workers together with our 1st child. But during our stay, I gave birth here in Canada. Is my new baby qualified for CCB since he’s a Canadian? Or still not eligible since we’re here in less than 18months? Appreciate your response. Thank you!

You need to wait 18 months and apply in your 19 month in Canada.

Hello,
I was on a work permit from December 2022 till September 2024 and I applied for an extension on my work permit in August 2024(before it expired) but decision was granted in December 2024. I had a baby in November 2024 and applied for CCB immediately but I just finally received mail saying I’m ineligible and I need to provide citizenship proof for me or my spouse. Could this be because I was out of status at the time they looked at my application? I had submitted documents showing that my application for work permit extension was under review and I still got a rejection. Should I reapply? Will I be deemed eligible now that my extension has been approved? Is there someone I’m meant to contact? Thank you.

You were denied because you were in implied status. Did you not have issues with healthcare as well given health card also likely expired. Maternity EI payments?

No, I did not have issues with healthcare. I went and renewed my health card immediately I submitted the application for WP extension and it got renewed even before expiry.

I guess some provinces have become more generous with extending health coverage on implied status given long processing times. This was not always the case.

Nice! Would you say I can reapply for CCB now? Do you know if I would get retro pay effective when my baby was born or when my work permit extension was approved?

Yes you should be eligible now that your WP is approved assuming you and the father have filed your taxes and provided any international income information if required. You should be able to get some retroactive pay.
