Child born to a Canadian citizen outside of Canada

I was not born in Canada.
My family immigrated to Canada in 1995 and I obtained my citizenship in 1998 with my parents (I was a minor at that time).
I have given up the Korean citizenship I had at the time of obtaining my Canadian citizenship.
I currently live abroad and am getting married to a non-Canadian.
When my spouse gives a birth to a child outside of Canada, does he/she become a Canadian citizen automatically?
From reading few threads, some say that although I am a Canadian citizen, because I was not born in Canada, my child will not automatically obtain the Canadian citizenship.
We will continue to live abroad but I would like my child to obtain the Canadian citizenship. What is the correct information?
Could you help!?

After April 2009, Canadian parents can only pass citizenship to their children born outside of Canada if at least one parent:

- was born in Canada
- is a naturalized Canadian citizen

As you are a naturalized citizen, yes, your child will also be Canadian.

However, your foreign-born children will not be able to pass their Canadian citizenship to their children.

Thank u so much for the information!
I understand my foreign born child will not be able to pass the citizenship to his or her child.
What if my child gives a birth to a child(would be my grand child) in Canada?
If that is the case, can he or she pass the citenship to their children?

Your child can never pass citizenship to its child under the current law but if their child is born in Canada, they automatically become a citizen because they are born in Canada which has nothing to do with their parentage. Also, if your child ends up with a Canadian spouse, their spouse if born in Canada or having immigrated to Canada would be able to pass on citizenship to their children.

Say if your child as an adult would marry a non-Canadian but they would sponsor their spouse for PR and live in Canada for at least 3 years so their spouse could become a citizen, this spouse would be able to pass on citizenship to their children no matter where they are born.

However, if your child should be planning to make a quick trip to Canada to give birth to a baby to make it Canadian, be aware that it can be costly to give birth in Canada without health care and such a move should be planned and done well in advance in order to have health care coverage before the baby is born. This is especially true if your child is a son because if he marries a non-Canadian and has not yet sponsored his spouse for PR, he may have to get that done first which takes months if not years in some cases before she could ever hope of getting covered by health care. However, some provinces like AB may cover a spouse who is in the process of being sponsored. However, if your child is a daughter, she would as a citizen not have problems getting health coverage in Canada although some provinces still have a 3 month waiting time.
