Hi All,

Me & my husband are Canadian PRs. I recently found out that I am pregnant & I am planning to go back to India and deliver the baby there. I have a few questions in this regard, if someone can help me or guide me to a source where I can read up on this.

1. I will be applying for an Indian Passport and canadian PR for the baby. Can this be done? situation being, Husband stays back in Canada and I am in India. If so, how long does the PR application typically take?
2. If PR application cant be made for the baby, what are my other options to get the baby into canada?

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated! :) Thanks!

1. Your husband would have to apply to sponsor the baby for PR because a PR sponsor must be residing in Canada. The sponsorship of a child through India can take 18 months, see http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/inFORMation/times/index.asp

If you want to get the baby to Canada sooner, you can apply for a TRV for the baby. If you get it, you will have to apply to extend the baby's visitor status every 6 months. If you are refused a TRV based on that it is your intention for the baby to stay in Canada permanently and not visit, you can apply for another visa called a TRP which is based on humanitarian grounds. You would have to write something about hardship on your family to be separated etc.
