So I'm 15 months into the spousal sponsorship and my wife is pregnant. She will have the baby there as it is a 3 month wait for Healthcare and I'm not spending $10,000 to do it in Canada.

I know that since I'm a Canadian citizen my baby will gain automatic citizenship but we must apply for a certificate of Canadian citizenship.

My questions are

1. Will I need to get a passport for the baby as well? If so, Canadian passport from outside Canada or Ecuadorian passport (place of birth)?

2. Does anyone know how long it takes to receive certificate of Canadian citizenship? It says 5 months on the website but does it actually take that long? I'm wondering because if the spousal sponsorship is approved it is crappy to have to wait another 5 months to be able to bring my child.

1. The child will need a Canadian passport.

2. Yes, it can take that long. You don't have to wait for the child to travel. You can apply for a limited validity Canadian passport before the certificate is approved.

Oh really? That is great news. I didn't realize the child would be able to travel while waiting for the document. Thank you!!
