Hi all

Me and my wife are fsw permanent residents . We will be moving canada and study to get a license to work as doctors which may take us 2 years if things go well ! We are planning to live from savings money + money given to us by our families . untill hopfully we could get into the system .

My question is could we apply for child benefits ? We would be submitting our taxes in first year or two as zero ( because we will have no income and we would be spending from our own money) so is it legal to apply for the benefits as a none income family?

Thanks for your help

Are the children going to live with you in Canada?

If your children are living with you in your residence then Canada pays around 6000 per annum per kid..

^hey don't mislead people, CCB is based on previous year's income, the higher the income the less money you get..........

Thank for the link S.mani , but i'm really still confused till now ? when i read the new law of child benefits it says that it is created to support families with no-low income ,but for us we would be living a middle class life by spending from our savings , does this still entitles us legally to this money or it would be considered a scam by us ? I really want to be sure before i apply as i do not want to start my life in canada by lying

thanks

The amount of CCB you receive is based on your previous year's income. If you have no income and are living off your savings, then you will certainly be entitled to the maximum amount. Just be truthful and you have nothing to fear.

Thanks for your reply , i just used the child benefit calculator and it showed in addition to the other tax redeems the amount could reach to 17 thousand canadian dollars for a family of four !!! Honestly it is a huge amount of money which could represent a major part of what we initially considered to spend per year

In future, don't create multiple threads about the same topic.

You aren't going to get that when you first come to Canada. If you arrive before June 2018, your benefit amount will be based on your 2016 income. Given the fact that you are both doctors and have enough savings to last you long-term in Canada, I'm assuming you have a fairly good income, so your benefits will be pretty low, possibly even zero if you make that much. In June 2018, CRA will reassess your benefit amount based on your 2017 income. Again, assuming you have a decent income this year even if you come to Canada partway through, the benefits will be low. In June 2019, it will be reassessed based on 2018 income; if you didn't have any income that year, then you would get the max amount.

Don't you have 2016 ITR from your home country? They will ask for your 2016 income if you arrive this year and apply, they will calculate the benefit based on that. Next year, when you file for 2017 income, you said you will be studying then file zero income, then you will get more benefit coz of zero income.

Then don't say around 6000 per annum, that is misleading, you know well that this benefit is variable.

Hi cooldoc80

Congrats for your PR and all the best for your further career as a doctor in Canada.

I'm also a doctor from India (MBBS + MD [Pharmacology]). I'm waiting for visa at present.

Could you please guide me what should an IMG (Intntnl medical graduate) do to get job in Canada?

I mean I'm not asking about PRACTISING medicine in Canada, but the other options for doctors, such as a candidate like me.

I have MD Pharmacology degree, so based on this, what are the career options for me?

Any word of advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

http://globalnews.ca/news/2595608/heres-how-much-the-new-canada-child-benefit-will-give-you-each-month/

The details

Families with children under age six will receive an annual tax-free benefit of up to $6,400 per child. Those with children between the ages of six and 17 will receive up to $5,400 annually. Households with children with annual income below $30,000 will receive the maximum payment.

The new program, coming into effect July 1, rolls three former benefit plans introduced by the Conservatives, including the Universal Child Care Benefit and the income-splitting scheme for two-parent households, into a single monthly payment.

Hi jp

And all the best for you too , im really not familiar with pharmacologist options but for your doctor degree you could do the mcc exams and apply for carms or you could apply for practise ready asessment programs of provinces , but he bottom end it is very hard and not guranteed so i think for you working in drug companies as a researcher or as a pharmaceutical sales would also be possible becoz of your phd

All the best
