hi saw a post named "can a sponsored child attend school while waiting for status?" and since it was over a year ago i thought id re-post similar as i have the same Question (there was no answer given in the stated thread)

ok, so my story- me and my son (both English, he is 5 years old) are going to apply for a common law visa, sponsored by my Canadian fiancé.
once we have applied for the visa we have been told it can be as fast as 6 months for a decision.
but my partner has to leave the UK in 5 months so the plan is for me and my son to "visit" him in Canada until we receive our decision.
if we was to do this i wanted to know if my son could attend public school in Ontario during our visit (as we are eligible to stay without a visa for up to 6 months at a time, a long time to stay out of school)

I have searched and emailed a few people about this but they have come up dry and have been as clueless as myself in the subject so any help would do in regards to is he allowed to go to school or not while we are there if our visa is in the process?

According to the info below, your daughter can enrol in the elementary public school in Toronto:

Admissions & Registration

Every child who lives in Toronto is welcome to attend a TDSB school. You can register at any time during the school year.

Parents of students aged 4 to 13 can register directly at their neighbourhood school by bringing the following items:

* Proof of age (such as a birth certificate or passport)
* Proof of home address (such as purchase or lease agreement or a utility bill showing name and address)
* Proof of custody (where applicable)

Children Without Immigration Status

Children not born in Canada who are living in Toronto without Canadian immigration status are welcome and eligible to attend TDSB schools without payment of admission fees. Any document which verifies the student's legal name, date of birth, home address, custody papers where applicable, and date of entry to Canada ( required for ESL funding purposes), is acceptable for TDSB school registration. A passport ( travel document) may be used to verify the student's name, date of birth and date of entry to Canada, in the absence of an immigration document or birth certificate. Where there is no official document to verify the required information, the TDSB accepts written signed letters of confirmation of the student's information from lawyers, notary publics, medical doctors, or other persons of recognized standing in the Toronto community.

For more information

* visit the International Programs and Admissions office at 5050 Yonge Street
* call 416-395-8109 or 416-395-9618
* e-mail admissions @ tdsb.on.ca

Hi

Am in a similar postion, we are also going to be in Ontario. I spoke to the school board in our area, who had a designated person to deal with this type of enquire and they advised that my daughter would be able to attend high school, on reciept of proof the immirgrantion process was under way, asking to see copies of the sponsorship and reciept of payment that the appliction had been paid for. Seemed pretty straight forward actually.

Hope this helps.

Hello! i have the same problem but i live here in Richmond British Columbia. Actually, i have received my OWP but doesn't have work and still looking for one. The problem is School Board here in Richmond doesn't allow my daughter to study even i've been AIP and has an OPW. Is it really different here in Richmond than there in Toronto? can anyone help me too with this? my common law husband is not the biological father of my daughter. i pity my daughter who hasn't been attending school since we arrive here and was really happy receiving the AIP and the Immigration officer told me she can study now, but the SBD stopped us.... would really appreciate if anyone can help me with this.

Every school district has different policies. Maybe try another school district.
