Chemical Engineer in Problem

Hello
I have two questions.
I have worked as a Chemical Engineer in a sugar mill in Pakistan. Due to a scholarship opportunity, I came to Finland to study Master Degree in Chemical Engineering.
I have got a job in the University and I am working here as a Research Assistant since 2011. Can I qualify on the basis of Research Assistant? I don't see the job duties in the NOC to match mine.I worked in Pakistan only for about 1.5 years. Without 4 years and full points, I cannot score enough points.

The second problem is even more serious. My wife's pasport has expired in April 2013 and my new born's passport has not been issued. There is no Pakistani Embassy in Finland. I have spoken to Pakistani Embassy in Sweden and they say that they cannot make passport for the baby. They are not telling me the reasons why not.
The baby is now 6 months and I have been trying to persuade them since his birth for his passport.
The question is that how can I apply without the passport copies of my wife and son. I need some adaption points for my wife as well because she has a bechelor degree in Economics from Pakistan.So, I cannot apply alone. Will they accept my son's birth certificate issued in Finland instead of Passport?

Please inform if you have any credible information about my problems.

Hi Khan,

Being an RA qualifies for immigration under QSW . I'm not sure whether it's the case for Federal programm, since you're FSW applicant but this occupation is definitely listed in the NOC. Check out these two links:

I also got 2 years of experience as a Teaching Assistant and 6 months as a Research Assistant while pursuing a grad degree in the US and it made me 4 points for application under QSW. I don't know how it's in Finland, but in the US grad students are eligible to work up to 20 hrs/week on campus, so I had to divide my total of 2.5 years roughly by two because for immigration purposes work experience is recalculated as a full-time equivalent which is 37,5 hrs/week for Canada.

I can't unfortunately advise on second problem, but I'm sure you'll get responses from seniors on this forum.

I can comment on one part of your situation.. i.e. Under new rules you can only claim points based on your spouse's Language abilities, not based on her education.

Agreed. You will receive zero adaptability points for your wife's education.

CHC , New Delhi advised to send when all requirements what does mean?

My application is in process at CHC New Delhi, INDIA for PR under PNP .

I received a request letter from CHC dated 17.12.2012 reuesting:
1. Medical of spouse
2.Landing fee
3.Passport of spouse when all requirements complete


As medical of mine was going to expire on 26.12.2012 , so I send mail dated 17.12.2012 to enquire:
1.About my medical
2. May i send passport of mine as well as of my spouse

CHC replied maul dated 20.12.2012

1. They have forwarded mine medical report to Medical Section
2. They have advised me to send passports only when all reuirements are complete

Plz help me , When to send passport according As CHC advised me to send passports only when all requirements are complete

1. Medical of spouse have done dated 12 jan,2013
2. Re -medical of mine have done dated 05 march, 2013.


May i send passports now as both of us have gone through medical
Whereas my PCC have already expired .Can CHC demand New PCC of mine.

CHC doesn't reply to mail regarding this enquiry dated 10 april,2013 .

Or CHC Intimate me again to send passports .

Plz help me as i'm very confused when to send passports or CHC will intimate regarding passports.

I believe the CHC instruction is very clear and you're the one getting yourself muddled up:

Once the medical exams have been completed and RPRF paid (for both of you), you can send your passports (for both of you). You can send passpoorts along with the RPRF payments. You can also pro-actively send new PCC sfor both of you, your choice!

In Finland, students are legally allowed to work full time if the work is related to studies or research without asking any permission or visa etc.I am working full time 40 hours per week.

The confusion is that I have a B.Sc. Chemical Engineering degree and now doing M.Sc. Chemical Engineering. I want to apply as a Chemical Engineer not as a "Teacher". My previous application made in 2009 has been refused because I applied in NOC4131(College Tutor) about which they said my duties do not match the required duties.(Clearing all the FSW files can be a reason). There is no point that I apply in that NOC at all when it is not in the FSW catagory now.2134 Chemical engineers should be my FSW NOC now but I wonder how to justify that I am an Engineer not a researcher.(I am indeed a researcher but work in the field of Chemical Engineering and have the required qualifications to do this job). I am not an applicant yet but I am planning to apply soon.

About QSW, I heard that french is a must! which is a big problem. Isn't it? I heard that QSW was suspended for sometime. How many points will I get for Research Assistant? May be you can help me determine if I qualify?

Hi Khan,

Under QSW your Research Assistantship would be counted unlike FSW, and you need to meet the minimum threshold of points to qualify ( in your case minimum 57 points for an applicant with a spouse). They are awarded for education, age, are of training, languages, etc. You can calculate points for you and your wife with this link: http://www.canadavisa.com/quebec-skilled-worker-immigration.html
Also, that's not a problem of submitting an application with no french exam. You can learn higher beginner/intermediate french and update your application later on while it will be in process.
However, under current rules Chemical Engineering is ineligible for processing as it gives you 6 points. So far, only applicants with an area of training that gives 12 to 16 points are eligible. "Chemical Engineering Techniques" gives 12 points, but if your BS degree title is not this one you should wait for two months for new updated rules. After July 31 there will be changes made to current selection rules and I recommend you to wait and check if you will qualify with them.
