Hello, I have a quick question.

Lets say, when a person being sponsored makes their point of entry and gets their PR card, let's say they leave the country because their sponsor is their spouse and has to be out of the country because of work. Does the person being sponsored, who is now a PR, have to make a point of entry every 6 months or do they need to check in with anyone because they're out of the country?

Do any limitations like that exist at all or am I just crazy?

Just to add salt to the wound:
You seem to be confusing the Canadian PR with the U.S. Green Card.

1. You don't get your PR card when you "make your point of entry". You must wait for it to arrive in the mail, which takes a couple of months after the request for the card has been made.

2. If your spouse/sponsor is a Canadian citizen, you could spend years, decades, perhaps even the rest of your life outside of Canada and still maintain your PR, as long as the two of you remain together. If s/he is NOT a Canadian citizen, you would have to return to Canada prior to the last day of your 3rd year outside of Canada, and then remain in Canada for 730 days before you could leave again...in theory.

You must spend at least 730 days of each [rolling] 5 year period in Canada to maintain your PR residency obligation...unless you are accompanying your Canadian Citizen sponsor/spouse abroad.
