Cheap Ways to Call your Wife/Husband Abroad

I thought it would be good to start a thread about methods people have found to call their wife/husbands abroad...It may help someone who may not know the resources available to them. Here's my method to call my wife in Russia

We use Skype for video conversations as most people probably do. I also subscribe to what is called "Unlimited World" on Skype and it costs me 8.95EUR per month for this. I can call landlines for free all over the world using my computer AND my cell phone using "Skype to Go Number".

Skype to Go is what I just discovered last night! You register your phone number and create a unique local number for a specific contact. It comes for free with an unlimited subscription plan and once you register it sends you a confirmation to your cell and gives you the local number you setup (in my case, Toronto). So I call this 647-123-4567 number and it connects me directly to my wife as if she's local! So it's nice when I am not at home and need to reach her like a normal phone call.

Because I'm calling her mobile and not a land line, it does cost 0.069EUR/min which is about 4EUR/hr and cheap in my eyes. For those of you who can call a landline using this method, you can talk 24hrs without a cost except for the subscription fee....Some countries are free calls to mobile phones abroad.

pretty good if you spend a lot of time on phone.

I also use Skype and as I have unlimited internet on my mobile like lots of call packages in the UK have, I have skype on my mobile and don't have to be at my computer to send or recieve calls.

My husband can call free from his computer straight to my mobile whereever I am and even leave voicemail messages for free for both of us.

They have a list of plans which they offer.
I'm not sure they offer similar plans for other countries.

I use a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone to call my husband in Canada. The service is offered by the cable company Flow Jamaica, and it is offered either stand-alone or as part of a bundled package. For about US$22.00 per month (phone only), I have unlimited calling to his landline and mobile phones.

He uses Virgin Mobile for his mobile, that gives him unlimited incoming, unlimited texting (including international) with his other features so he can call/text me. The package is Cdn$45/month for him.

We both use a rebtel app on our cell phones which is free for calling cell to cell as long as the app is on. It just uses business minutes which I have unlimited of.

well allmost all of the calling cards available currently are VOIP based. thats why they offer so low rates. which VOIP provider do you use.

i always use windows messenger or yahoo for video calls. i don't use phone lines to call anymore since the connection can sometimes be noisy plus it's expensive. i use twitter to send text messages to my husband, and he does the same thing since twitter via text is available both in canada and the philippines, it's less expensive than sending a text message directly to mobile phone number.

that's bcze of magic jack 20$/year
u need 2 have a computer and home phone then u plug ur magic jack into any usb in ur computer and within seconds u can call canada and the usa free
this product can be used any where in the world, just u have 2 have a computer , high speed enternet and phone

Magic jack is good, but still it doesn't beat the convenience of talking on phone snuggled up in your bed. Plus for India, not all places have high speed internet, so the call quality comes to be really bad.

we spent nearly more than $1.5k for telephone cards as we dont want to sit i front of sys while talking ....

now my husband in canada came across MOBILICITY service provider ... very very economic one ...

from canada --- > unlimited india calling for $20 ..... unlimited u.s calling for $20 - $30 ....

You can use it with a cordless phone and call from your bed.
