The RPRF applies to all applicants for permanent residence except the following:
Protected Persons, including Convention Refugees, and their *family members;
Member of the Humanitarian Protected-Persons Abroad Class;
Principal applicant in Canada, who has made an application on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds, and who is the dependent child of a permanent resident or Canadian citizen;
Member of the Permit Holder Class who is the dependent child of:
another member of the Permit Holder Class; or
a permanent resident or Canadian citizen;
Any person who meets the definition of a dependent child;
Dependent children of dependent children;
Child to be adopted;
A brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild who is:
orphaned;
under 18 years of age; and
not married or in a common-law relationship.
The RPRF can be paid with the processing fee or at a later time during the application process depending on the category you apply under. It must be paid before a Permanent Resident Visa can be issued. The office will contact you when it is time to pay.
There are two ways to pay:
On our website with a credit card.
At a financial institution (e.g. a bank) with an official Receipt (IMM 5401).
No other payment method is accepted.

You can pay online with your Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card. Please note that you need Adobe® Acrobat Reader software in order to print your receipt. After you fill out your application, you must:
Go to our website and click on Pay Application Fees from the right menu bar under I Need To ….
Follow the instructions.
Make your payment and print the receipt. It will be sent to your email address.
Fill out the Payer Information section by hand.
Include Copy 2 with your application.
Financial Institution with receipt IMM 5401
Order an official Receipt (IMM 5401) from our website.
Go to a financial institution in Canada. Verify with the financial institution to see if they will accept the payment.
Complete the Payer Information section by hand.
Include Copy 2 with your application.
*A family member is a spouse, common-law partner, dependent child or dependent child of a dependent child.
Once the payment is made, you must send the payment receipt to the Case Processing Centre (CPC) in Mississauga, Ontario by email.
Your email must include the following information:
Your name;
Your date of birth;
Your complete address;
The date you sent your application;
Your client ID (if you have one);
The type of application (e.g. sponsorship of my spouse); and
Your e-Payment receipt or your official Receipt (IMM 5401).
