Chat logs

One of the forms asks for chat logs and emails between my spouse and I, however we have known each other for over 8 years and we have chat logs for roughly half of that time. We communicated daily and I was wondering how much of these chat logs to include. The way it is formatted now, to do about 5 months in the beginning of our chat logs it was about 200 pages, however one month after we started dating was over 100 pages. How much should I include? Should I take a selection from the beginning, middle and more current, and if so how much of each? Should i print out what will likely be a couple thousand pages? Has anyone been asked to include more correspondence after submitting their forms, or if you don't include enough do you just get flat out denied?

Hi,

I concur with the question of `how much is enough' to prove a genuine relationship.

Personally, I wouldn't send thousands or even hundreds of pages of chat logs. This is only one way to prove your relationship, so
perhaps it's best to look at the overall `sum' of the combined material. I'd like to think that a sample of chats, from various stages of a relationship
is of more value, rather than a thousand pages of chat...and only 7 photos, 3 cards, and a letter from your family.

It's hard to know how much is enough, but the person that reviews your file has to understand that most of us didn't even consider the fact
that we would one day be assembling a pile of evidence to prove our relationship to ANYONE.

It would seem to me that if the IO reviewing the application is suspicious, and feels that there wasn't enough evidence, they would ask for more, or schedule an interview...since that's apparently why the interview is primarily needed.

Good luck!

It really depends where your VO is and your nationality/background.

I did include quite a bit of evidence, my file was about 4 kg, I did not include all chats, emails or SMS messages, but enough that would document the development of our relationship. As for pictures, I debated this as well. I included 1 or 2 photos for each day we traveled, or of us at home with family, 20 photos from our formal engagement ceremony (religious marriage) and 40 photos from our big wedding reception (15 of us together, 15 of us with family, 10 showing the reception party including all guests, dancing, live music band, my wedding dresses that I wore, flowers, presents we received, all staff at the wedding (waiters, caterers and negafas (ladies who help the bride change into different wedding gowns throughout the wedding). I included phone records of me calling. We do not have records of my husband's calls because uses prepaid phone # (VO there are aware that this is the norm re cell phone use).

for chat logs, I had MSN and Skype chat (had problem with printing MSN chats since MSN merged with skype, so was only able to provide a screen shot of the chats going back to beginning of 2012), in Skype I was saving the history, so I just select copied all and pasted in word and printed. in Skype I also took screen shots when we were in video chat showing the duration and dates (only last few months). For phone chats, I use Viber and Whatsapp, and those chats can be e-mailed from your phone and printed after.
