I am just about ready to submit my P.R application via common-law class and have realized that my P.R will only last as long as my current passport. I.E 4 years. Now I'm feeling like I should apply with a new passport so that I get 10 years instead. However, the time it takes to get a new passport will make all my application documentation a little stale, plus I kind of want to get the ball rolling.

So, my question is: Can I amend my application with a new passport after applying? It will probably be 3-4 months after having applied.

Many thank yous in advance

PR status is not in any way dependent on the validity of your passport. Once you are a PR, you remain a PR forever unless the Canadian government formally revokes your status or you renounce it.

PR is provided/valid for 5 years irrespective of your Passport's validity. At the time of PPR your passport should be valid at least for 6 months. I would suggest proceed with your application with existing passport and once you get AOR then you can apply for new passport and get it amended to your application. I did the same.

A PR card is valid for 5 years. PR status is valid until revoked or renounced.
