Changing from Visitor Permit to Open Work Permit = Implied status?

If I'm currently a visitor in Canada and apply for an Open Work Permit (spousal), will I get an Implied Status between the application and the cic response?

I mean, my Visitor Permit expires November 20. If my OWP arrives after this date, do I get permission to stay in Canada in the time between?

Yes you would have implied status if you have already submitted the OWP application.

Thanks, good to know. There's a page in cic that says this though, got me a little confused

If you applied for another work permit

  • You must stay in Canada and meet the conditions of your original work permit. If you applied for a work permit extension before your work permit expired, you can keep working under the same conditions as your existing permit until we decide on your application unless you have applied to extend your stay under another category.
If you applied for a different kind of permit

  • You cannot do any of the activities allowed by the original work permit. For example, you may have come to Canada as a worker and then applied for a study permit. If so, you must stop working once your work permit expires. After that, you cannot work or study until you get a new permit.
I guess just staying in the country is not considered an "activity" like study or work then.

Exactly. Since you are switching status from visitor to worker, you can only remain in Canada without leaving.
